I needed to stay in the Manila area for a couple nights, so I looked online for a clean and cheap place to stay. I chose the Shogun Suite Hotel because it was only 20 minutes to the airport and 5-10 minutes to the Mall of Asia. It’s also beside both the MRT and LRT if you’re taking local transit.
The hotel is located just behind the Metropoint Mall on the corner of ESDA and Taft Ave. When you look at it on the map, it seems like it would be easy to find, but the street signs in the area are barely visible. What looks like a street from the Google maps, is actually more like an alley. The best way to find the place is to drive west on EDSA and turn right just before Taft Ave. You’ll see the Kabayan Hotel on the corner.
The street outside of the hotel is always busy, so is pretty safe during the day. At night, it would probably be best not to walk around alone. There are a few security guards along the way to the main street (a couple hotels and the back entrance to the Mall), so it may not be as bad as it looks.
The staff was very accommodating with my reservation. I needed to make some last minute changes to my reservation made on Agoda, plus extended an extra night. The front desk staff made the arrangements and worked everything out without any hassle.
The rooms were very basic, but it was exactly what they showed on the website. The mattresses are hard (which is pretty common in the Philippines), there is only a single sheet on the bed, and the TV is small and old. The room includes a mini fridge, aircon, closet, desk and table. The bathroom comes with some free toiletries and had cold / hot water.
There is a café on the second floor where you can take your free breakfast. It’s a buffet style with two different kinds of food. For some reason you have to choose which breakfast you want. You can’t just eat anything from the buffet. It’s kind of a weird setup.
On the top floor of the hotel you’ll find the restaurant, bar and pool area. The open-air restaurant needs a little work. The servers are slow to take your order or get get you the bill. The food is ordered from the café on the second floor, so they have to take the elevator down and back to get your food. On a couple occasions the music was unbearably loud. On the plus side, the food was decent, when it finally came.
The pool is small but great for taking a dip and cooling off after a long day of shopping. You can grab one of a few tables around the pool to have a beer and there is a small area with lawn chairs if you want to do some sun tanning. You’ll also get a great view of Makati and the surrounding city scape.

Stayed here last year. Had to fit in my tight budget and I only had a few hours left before my flight back to Cagayan de Oro. The hallway is so dark and I have to agree with the statement “it would probably be best not to walk around alone.”
We are staying here for almost a week. Staffs are friendly. The only discomfort we experiencing and we are looking forward that it would be given emphasis/solution is the bed foam is hard and on 2 pillow provided is small . We both are suffering from back pains and stiff neck. We requested additional pillow but with extra charge.
